Rigel Awards

The Rigel Awards brings exhibitors together with general attendees to receive genuine recognition for their continued support and contribution to the development of minority businesses. The Rigel Awards are HMSDC’s most prestigious awards that recognizes those Corporations that are setting new standards and establishing best practices for corporate supplier diversity programs and those MBEs who are providing best in class service to their corporate customers. Advocate of the Year
Advocate of the Year Award recognizes with this award the individuals who have done the most during the past twelve months to provide ongoing, recurring support to MBEs resulting in contracts for multiple MBEs.

Chairman’s Award
The Chairman’s Award recognizes a corporate member or MBE supplier that in the Chair’s opinion emulates the best traits of an active representative and advocate of the HMSDC.

Corporation of the Year
Corporation of the Year Award recognizes the Local and National Corporate Member who has evidenced the most commitment to minority business development during the past year. Nominees for this award have demonstrated a commitment to minority business enterprise (MBE) development; Active involvement in HMSDC; provided specific assistance to MBEs; encourages prime suppliers to support minority business development; increased direct and indirect spend with MBEs; changed internal processes that resulted in contracts awarded to MBEs; and finally demonstrated executive involvement.

Each One – Reach One
The Each One – Reach One Award recognizes the person that has recruited and assisted the most MBEs to become a certified supplier of HMSDC.

Helping Hand Award
The Helping Hand Award recognizes stand-out individuals from our Corporate Members who have gone the extra mile to open doors and create opportunities for minority business enterprises (MBEs).

Innovation Award
The Innovation Award recognizes and encourages innovative practices in supplier diversity and supplier development. This award is presented to the company that in the President’s opinion has adopted and implemented innovative practices and processes to drive minority business development.

MBE-to-MBE Awards
The MBE-to-MBE Awards recognize those MBE Suppliers who support other MBEs by reporting the largest annual expenditures with other HMSDC Certified MBEs.

Middle Market Engagement
The Middle Market Engagement Award is presented to the corporate member of HMSDC that has expanded minority business development to include their prime suppliers as exhibitors at EXPO.

Minority Business Development
Minority Business Development Awards recognize those Corporate Members who truly walk the talk by reporting the largest increase in annual expenditures with HMSDC Certified MBEs.

President’s Award
The President’s Award will be presented to an individual or organization that in the opinion of the President has gone above and beyond to support the Council in executing the mission of the organization.

Prime Supplier of the Year
The Prime Supplier of the Year Award is presented to the prime supplier that demonstrates overall growth in their second-tier efforts, using a year-on-year comparison.

Strategic Teaming
Strategic Teaming refers to a partnering or subcontracting arrangement between a prime vendor and one or more Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs) or between two or more MBEs. This award is presented to deserving MBE(s) who are partnering with each other or a prime supplier to increase their capacity and leverage their capabilities to render a product or service to a customer.

Supplier of the Year
The purpose of the Supplier of the Year Award is to recognize and role model outstanding suppliers within the Houston Minority Supplier Development Council and to encourage a more competitive and successful business environment for all Council members.
