HMSDC will kick off Day 1 of Texas’ largest minority business trade-fair with a dynamic keynote address by Houston Rockets Certified MBE, Russell Westbrook III. He is a philanthropist and nine-time National Basketball Association All-Star. He also earned the NBA’s Most Valuable Player Award for the 2016– 2017 season. 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM HMSDC Rigel Awards – Day 1 Auditorium
The Rigel Awards bring exhibitors together with general attendees to receive recognition for their continued support and contribution to the development of minority businesses. The Rigel Awards are HMSDC’s most prestigious awards that recognize corporations that are setting new standards and establishing best practices for corporate supplier diversity programs and MBEs who are providing best-in-class service to their corporate customers.

Experience how HMSDC and the Houston Business Journal are driving thought leadership and discussing business growth trends. This session will feature Colette Holt, a leading consultant in designing and conducting disparity studies. This session will educate MBEs on the importance of disparity studies and what they can do to impact solutions that create additional opportunities in the cases where disparities are found. Biz Talk connects you with leaders and information needed to understand how to best position your business for growth with the greater Houston area.

1:20 PM – 3:00 PM Emerging 10 Dining Hall
The Emerging 10 (E-10) Award is presented to 10 of HMSDC’s prominent, emerging minority-owned businesses during a special recognition ceremony. MBEs are selected based on their company’s growth, ability to overcome business challenges and community involvement. Award winners share how they emerged to be successful while facing various trials and tribulations in an ever-changing business landscape.

HMSDC will kick off Day 2 of Texas’ largest minority business trade fair with a dynamic keynote address and discussion with renowned journalist Roland Martin on the role of today’s business leaders and how they can address systemic economic inequity that impacts communities of color. 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM 20/20 Insight Forum Workshop
The 20/20 Insight Forum will be conducted with State Agencies participating in the HMSDC’s Spot Bid Fair to share insights into state agency procurement processes. All general attendees interested in bidding on opportunities should attend this session to learn more about the participating agencies. The Spot Bid Fair is sponsored by Senators Borris Miles and Carol Alvarado, and provides opportunities for smaller entrepreneurs interested in doing business with state agencies to be considered for contracts.
2:00 PM – 3:00 PM MBE Best Of Class Reception Dining Hall
The Best-in-Class reception is sponsored by certified MBEs of the HMSDC. The reception provides the opportunity for MBEs to recognize and thank our sponsors and exhibitors that support supplier diversity and minority business development. Connect with industry leaders, corporate participants and MBEs in several virtual chats rooms, including group and private chats.
